Inaugural Meeting - Intro to SQL Server

Speaker: Sean Brown, Database Engineer Grand Canyon University

Summary: Welcome to our first AZSSUG West Valley event at Grand Canyon University. Aim of the West Valley group is to lean more towards introductory topics within the SQL Server ecosystem of tools and services. Following that theme, we have 4 speakers who will introduce the Microsoft Business Intelligence services (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) that are commonly used when working with enterprise SQL Server data.

About Sean: Working with SQL Server since 2005, mostly doing ETL work but more recently supporting the database layer of multilayered web applications and writing web services to support data transfer between systems. Sean has previously worked at Acxiom, Dell, Blackboard, and currently works at Grand Canyon University as the lead developer on Student Information System team.

Inaugural Meeting - Intro to SSIS

Speaker: Joseph Barth, Senior Consultant II Neudesic

Summary: Will be an overview of all SSIS and how it relates to SQL Server databases.

About Joseph: This man needs an introduction, right from the East Valley, originally from the Midwest,then moving to the east coast and now living in the Southwest. Joe Barth. A eight year Microsoft SQL Server Specialist, has made his splash on a couple of industries including, healthcare, insurance and education. Working on versions of SQL Server 2000,2005,2008,2008 R2, 2012 and 2014, he has done many jobs, including and not exclusively SQL Developer, DBA, SSIS and SSRS. MCSA: SQL Server 2012

Inaugural Meeting - Intro to SSAS

Speaker: Paul Graham

Summary: An overview of SSAS and its function in the SQL Server Database world, how it is used to solve the toughest BI Solutions!

About Paul: Paul has been developing Self-Serve BI solutions for several years using pivot tables. PowerPivot, along with DAX, and greatly enhanced his expediencies. Paul now is a SQL BI Consultant with Neudesic and has developed several DAX based solutions over the past year.

Inaugural Meeting - Intro to SSRS

Speaker: Adam Gardner, Database Engineer Grand Canyon University

Summary: An overview of SSRS and how it is implemented in an everyday situation.

About Adam: SQL Server career using the BIDS working at Grand Canyon University as a Business Analyst in the Office of Business Intelligence. He was primarily responsible for SSIS, SSRS, and other data warehouse reporting needs for the Traditional Ground Campus. His current role as Business Analyst serves the Student Accounting Team at Grand Canyon University. In addition to Business Analyst tasks, Adam helps develop custom jobs and reports for the Accounting Department. Adam earned a Master of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University where he also teaches in the Colangelo College of Business.
